The success rate of Neurofeedback Therapy is impressive. Parents, teachers, and counselors agree. They say children with ADHD who have Neurofeedback Therapy gain social skills, conduct themselves better, make better grades, and have more self-esteem. They can also plan, organize, and maintain their attention much better. In school, this translates to better grades in reading, spelling, and math.

Lasting Effects of Neurofeedback Therapy
For more than 30 years, evidence published in scientific journals around the world shows that Neurofeedback Therapy works well both in the short-term and in the long-term.
More than 70% of the people using Neurofeedback respond quite well. Reports from 16 months to 10 years later show that the results last. People who learn how to use their brains more efficiently find situations every day in which they discover new solutions to their problems. So, the effects increase as time goes on. Like any learned skill, it gets easier, better, and more automatic with experience.

The reason for Biofeedback Therapy’s lasting effect is that it teaches life-long techniques that people can do on their own. Most people find that incorporating certain aides accelerates training and leads to a more pleasurable lifestyle. There are several products we recommend people use before, during and after Biofeedback Therapy.
*EMG Biofeedback is electromyographic biofeedback. It measures the on-going electrical activity of the muscles. Neurofeedback is electroencephalographic biofeedback. It measures the on-going electrical activity of the brain.

Memory, Concentration…and a Whole Lot More
Before Neurofeedback Therapy, Stephen’s mother was desperate. She was frustrated that as an elementary school teacher she couldn’t help her own child. He was failing reading. When writing he printed everything backwards, right to left. In arithmetic he wrote numbers backwards and transposed them. During the night he walked in his sleep.
The first time Stephen came in to the Smarter Way offices, he was polite and well mannered. His ability to direct his need to be physically active was impressive. Standing in place, he jumped into the air, did a backwards somersault, and landed on his feet, right where he had been standing. Twice!
Stephen’s parents were most concerned about his academic performance. We at Smarter Way recognized early on that the underlying problem was an inability to quiet his mind and body. Therefore, it was clear to us that treatment for Stephen’s ADHD should include EMG Biofeedback and EEG Biofeedback Therapy. When Stephen learned to relax and quiet his body, he wouldn’t have to burn off extra energy by doing backwards somersaults. More importantly, this mind-body quieting would allow his brain to make normal connections free of the noise of irregular brain activity. To aid his overall relaxation levels, we decided to teach him some basic techniques first.
To begin with, we used EMG Biofeedback to measure Stephen’s muscle activity and finger temperature biofeedback. His warming finger tips indicated how well he was learning these new skills of self-regulation. He also learned specific techniques to help his brain and body relax. These included progressive muscle relaxation and diaphragmatic breathing. During Session 5 Mom announced, “Everything’s better. Mama’s getting her sleep because Stephen isn’t sleepwalking any more.”
In Session 6 Stephen began Neurofeedback Therapy. Over time, his fine motor skills improved, and he sometimes got 100’s on his math tests. His reading grade climbed from an “F” to a “B+.” In fact, all of his grades improved and his conduct improved too.
By Session 14 Stephen and his older sister played together continuously for six hours one day. Before Neurofeedback Therapy, Mom said the two “fought constantly.” His grandparents, who knew nothing about his Neurofeedback Therapy, asked what had happened because he could now sit quietly next to his grandmother through an entire church service.
