Concentration and ADHD
Neurofeedback Therapy uses a special computerized program that is tailored to each individual. It’s much easier to concentrate when you use a special computerized program to teach your brain how to concentrate effectively. In a way, it's like learning to ride a bicycle with training wheels.

"Paying attention to life situations of all kinds gets easier, giving you feelings of pleasure and satisfaction"
Frank, 33 years old

Learning to Concentrate
Frank attended one of the talks Vicki Jones, LCSW, Sr-Fellow-BCIA, gave at a well-known bookstore. He then realized that he could do something to make his life even better. Something he could take with him wherever he went. He could learn to concentrate so well that he could read a whole book in one sitting. So, Frank came in to the Smarter Way offices to for a series of individualized Neurofeedback Training sessions. By the end of his series of sessions he had great news: He announced that he had read an entire book in one sitting. Frank was rightfully proud of his new accomplishments, and so were we!

Training the Brain
When you have ADHD, concentrating on something boring is hard. Concentrating when you feel pressured is hard, too. Here’s a way to think about it: Imagine going in to a dark room to turn on the light. It’s dark and you don’t know where the light switch is. You can’t see. You stumble around and trip over something.

Now, when you take a flashlight into the dark room with you, you can find the light switch. Some rooms have motion detector light switches, which turn lights on automatically whenever you enter the room.

This last example illustrates the effect computerized programs can have on an ADHD brain.  They teach the brain to turn on in specific ways. Neurofeedback Training teaches you to automatically focus your attention and easily concentrate. So, it’s much easier to read, learn, and remember what you want. Paying attention to life situations of all kinds gets easier, giving you feelings of pleasure and satisfaction. It feels so good to feel good about yourself!
